Inclusion Guidance

Gifford Primary is an inclusive school, with an Addition Resources Provision (ARP) for deaf children.

We actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual pupils, or groups of pupils. We aim to offer equality of opportunity and diversity, when needed, to the different individuals and groups of children within our school.

 Hearing Impaired Provision (HIP)

We are the only HIP attached to a mainstream primary school in Ealing that caters for Deaf children.

The provision is well established and resourced having been attached to the school since 1974. We support Deaf children with mainly severe to profound levels of deafness and use ‘English as a main mode of communication… with signing used to support teaching and learning as required.’

We are very proud of this provision and of the Deaf children that attend it. Each Deaf child is treated as an individual and we help them to develop a positive sense of Deaf identity and high levels of confidence and self-esteem.  We strongly believe in inclusive education and our policy is for the Deaf children to be included for as much as possible of the whole school day.

We value the experience and knowledge of our parents and carers and work hard to develop positive links with them. We work in strong partnership with Speech & Language Therapy and Audiology Services to meet the holistic needs of the Deaf child.
